Run-time error 372: Failed to load control 'ImageList' from mscomctl.ocx.

I've been looking at this for hours now. I've seen

However this is absolutely not the case here. I'm running on a late model
laptop, Windows XP, 32 bit color. The file mscomctl.ocx is the exact same
version as on many other workstations on which the software is running
properly.

Any ideas where this is coming from?

I've seen this happen when the PC is low on memory - it used
to happen a lot on Win 98 but I've not seen it happen on
later OS - anyway next time it happens it may be worth
seeing if anything else has hogged some memory just in case.
